Form cues
Three things to think about on every rep.
- Hands a little wider than your shoulders, body in one straight line from head to heels.
- Lower your chest toward the floor with your elbows angled back, not flared out.
- Press the floor away until your arms are straight, hips staying in line.
Common mistakes
If you see these, slow down and reset.
- Hips sagging toward the floor or piking up.
- Elbows flared straight out to the sides.
Make it fit you
Easier
Incline push-up: hands on a counter, sturdy table or wall. The higher your hands, the easier it gets.
Harder
Slow push-up: 3 seconds down, a short pause just above the floor, then press up.
